Major sporting events such as this week’s Commercialbank Qatar Masters, presented by Dolphin Energy provide the perfect platform to promote Qatari values on a global scale, according to the Qatar Tourism and Exhibitions Authority.
“Sport is a good platform to give Qatar international exposure with major sporting events attracting visitors to the country,” said the Authority’s Chairman Ahmed Al Nuaimi.
“It not only gives outstanding exposure to the world - such as during the XVth Asian Games in 2006 - but enables the spread of strong Qatari values, such as willingness, pride, equity, open-mindedness and respect.”
The US$ 2.5 million tournament, which gets under way at Doha Golf Club on Thursday (Jan 22), will again enjoy the unconditional support of the Qatar Tourism and Exhibitions Authority.
“We look forward to being present during the Commercialbank Qatar Masters, presented by Dolphin Energy, to promote Qatar as a growing sports destination, situated in a key location,” added Al Nuaimi. “We are aiming to attract more and more passengers to stay an extra 48 hours in the country, representing a growth of 20% of new travellers in the next five years.
“For the 2009 event we would like to promote Qatar as a central location between all European Tour destinations and encourage people to make a stop-over in Doha on their way to other tournaments in North America, Europe and Asia.”
Held in co-operation with the Qatar Golf Association (QGA), Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and Commercialbank, the twelfth staging of the Commercialbank Qatar Masters, presented by Dolphin Energy will bring a star-studded field of 120 players to Doha Golf Club for an event considered one of the best on the Tour’s international calendar.
As well as receiving the all of the facilities associated with a first-class Tour event, players, caddies, media and officials will be treated to the unique hospitality that is synonymous with the tournament.
“The Commercialbank Qatar Masters, presented by Dolphin Energy, has a reputation as being one of the most hospitable events on the European Tour,” said Commercialbank Group CEO Andrew Stevens. “One aim is not only to stage a world-class golfing event but also to showcase the many attractions Qatar has to offer.
“Working with partners such as the Qatar Tourism and Exhibitions Authority allows us to do just that and provide our visitors with a memorable experience.”
The 2009 Commercialbank Qatar Masters, presented by Dolphin Energy will be staged at Doha Golf Club from Thursday to Sunday with entrance free of charge to the public.
