Retief Goosen may have missed out on the defence of his tournament title last year but the popular South African enjoyed a winning return to Doha Golf Club helping his Modern Home 2 team to victory in the Rolex Pro-Am, traditional curtain raiser for the Commercialbank Qatar Masters, Presented by Dolphin Energy.
Goosen, who pulled out of last year’s European Tour event in Doha with an eye complaint, bounced back to winning ways alongside amateur playing partners Omar Al Khatib, Marwan El Koussa and Mathew Mucharafia.
The foursome edged out Jeev Milka Singh and the QGA 1 team of Mubarak Al Kuwari, Jeham Al Kuwari and Ali Mufleh who also shot sixteen under par (56) but lost out on a count-back.
Third, one place further back, was the BMW 2 team led by English pro Oliver Wilson and featuring amateurs Ibrahim Bargout, Randy Holt and Stuart McDougall (-15).
The count-back was particularly cruel on young Qatari national Ali Mufleh of the QGA 1 team who carded a gross one-under par 71 despite a playing handicap of nine.
