The continuing progress of The European Tour is today recognised and respected throughout both the golf and business worlds as an outstanding achievement in the always difficult, often delicate challenge of combining professional sport with vital sponsorship and corporate interests.
The growth and development of The European Tour is well documented. In 2005 The European Tour International Schedule consisted of 47 tournaments in 23 countries with prize money of €109,204,314 (£73,831,413) compared to a total prize fund of £250,000 when the Tour was born in 1972.
World-class playing standards established by Tour Members have led to numerous Major Championship victories and six wins and one tie for Europe in the last ten Ryder Cup Matches against the United States.
Tour Membership is coveted to the point that approximately 900 hopefuls enter for the Qualifying School each year knowing that only the top 30 and ties can graduate.
The Tournament Committee, with overall responsibility for tournament policy and discipline, comprises: Jamie Spence (Chairman), Thomas Björn, Roger Chapman, Darren Clarke, Andrew Coltart, Joakim Haeggman, Raphaël Jacquelin, Miguel Angel Jiménez, Barry Lane, Bernhard Langer, Paul McGinley, Colin Montgomerie OBE, Mark Roe and Henrik Stenson.
