In preparation for the yearly-awaited Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, part of the European Tour, Commercial Bank and Education City Golf Club are gearing up to welcome Qatar Schools Golf Championship, scheduled to be held on February 22nd.
The said championship will run in two sections. One section for experienced junior golfers who possess a golf handicap, to be played on the 18-hole championship course. As for the second section, it will be a team event and will take place on the 9-hole Par 3 golf course for lesser experienced junior golfers who may have recently picked up the game.
In addition, children with no prior golf experience are welcome to come along and give golf a try at Education City Golf Club, a brand-new course ready to host Commercial Bank Qatar Masters 2020 for the first time.
Rhys Beecher, Director of Golf Education City Golf Club said: “We have been working hand-in-hand with Commercial Bank to ensure that this year’s Qatar Masters is different, new and upgraded. Our activities and goals always involve and include children in the first place; encouraging them to play and participate in such activities and championships, helps them adopt a healthy, active lifestyle.”
To partake in the championship, teachers are required to register their teams of pupils by registering them directly with Education City Golf Club
Apropos of the event, Abeer AlKalla, Head of Corporate Communications and CSR at Commercial Bank, stated: “Through this initiative we emphasize our commitment to support younger generation’s growth and development. The championship will highlight the benefits of this sport and raise awareness amongst the public about golf itself, which is considered an activity that helps children practice skills such as concentration, and learn values such as patience and persistence. We believe that organizing such events shall contribute in the betterment of our community’s lifestyle and health.”
Anthony Caira, Head Golf Professional, Education City Golf Club emphasized on the importance of such events as “the success of school golf education programmes is marked by the organisation of such competitive playing opportunities.” He added: “Investing in the talents and skills of today’s children is nothing but an investment in how the future would look like tomorrow.”
