1999 Winner, Paul Lawrie

In what remains one of the most impressive all-around performances at any Qatar Masters to date, Paul Lawrie’s score of 20-under propelled him to a seven shot victory in 1999. Lawrie never shot higher than 68 over the four days, with Soren Kjeldsen of Denmark and Phillip Price of Wales tying for second place at 13 under. Interestingly, one of Lawrie’s closest competitors all event was France’s Jean Van de Velde – the same player who fell to Lawrie about six months later in ’99, in a memorable playoff finish at The Open.
